Fort Bragg to Host Combatives Championship Invitational Dec. 12 to 14
FORT BRAGG, N.C. - Fort Bragg will host the 2013 Fort Bragg Army Combatives Championship Invitational December 12 to 14. This Army-wide tournament features fighters, representing units from across Fort Bragg and includes participants from other Department of Defense installations.

“The willingness and ability to close the distance and engage the enemy is a powerful part of who we are as Soldiers and paratroopers; the Warrior Ethos defines who we are,” said Staff Sgt. Jeff Yurk, noncommissioned officer in charge of the 82nd Airborne Division Combatives and Advanced Tactics School.

Yurk said this event will give Soldiers and senior leaders an opportunity to showcase their training, readiness and resiliency in a competitive environment, while building unit esprit de corps.

Participants will compete using the Army’s graduated set of rules to ensure fighters employ appropriate battlefield techniques. Standard rules will be used for all ladder matches, intermediate rules for the semi-finals and advanced rules in the finals.

Tournament matches will be held at Ritz-Epps Physical Fitness Center Dec. 13 with finals held at Sports USA Dec. 14.

The 2013 Fort Bragg Army Combatives Championship Invitational will include some of the very best and well trained Soldiers, paratroopers and senior leaders from Fort Bragg and the rest of the United States Army, said Yurk.

All of the events are free and open to the public.

A detailed schedule of events will be posted soon on the Fort Bragg webpage at www.bragg.army.mil.
