San José City Hall, City offices to close for Holiday Furlough

SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José City Hall and other City offices will close on Friday, December 23, 2011 through Monday, January 2, 2012 for the holiday furlough. All City offices will reopen on Tuesday, January 3, 2012. The Police and Fire Departments, along with other critical City services, will continue unaffected by the closure.

Customer Contact Center: The City's Customer Contact Center will be answering calls from Tuesday, December 27 through Thursday, December 29 from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. An after-hours answering service will provide City information and assistance during the evenings, weekends, holidays and other closure days. Non-emergency requests requiring follow-up will be routed to the proper department and handled during open business hours.

Library Schedule: All Libraries will be closed from Saturday, December 24 through Monday, December 26; and also from Saturday, December 31 through Monday, January 2. Please refer to the San José Public Libraries website at www.sjpl.org.

Community Centers: Centers throughout the city will be closed from Friday, December 23 through Monday, January 2. Senior Nutrition Programs will operate limited hours on December 27, 28 & 29. Please call your local community center to inquire about general operating hours during the remainder of the holiday season. Park Holiday Hours: Neighborhood Park outdoor features will be accessible to the public from sunrise to one hour after sunset every day. Neighborhood park restrooms will be closed for the holidays from Friday, December 23 through Monday, December 26; they will reopen on Tuesday, December 27. The restrooms will also be closed from Friday, December 30 through Monday, January 2; they will reopen on Tuesday, January 3. After hours and weekends, emergency staff may be contacted through the Fire Department Communications at (408) 277-8950.

Regional Parks will be open as follows:

  • Kelley, Municipal Rose Garden and Guadalupe River Regional Parks will be open every day, including Christmas and New Year's Day, from 8:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. (1/2 hour after sunset).
  • Almaden Lake will be open from 8:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. except on December 25 & 26 and January 1 & 2.
  • Lake Cunningham will be open from 8:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. except on December 25 and January 1.
  • Overfelt Gardens will be open from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. except on December 23, 24, 25, 26, 30, 31 and January 1 & 2.
  • Prusch Farm will be open from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. except on December 25 & 26 and January 1 & 2.
  • In addition, Alum Rock, Overfelt Gardens, Prusch Farm and Almaden Lake will continue Monday closures on December 26 and January 2.

City Attorney's Office will accept claims against the City, subpoenas, subpoena duces tecums and summonses from Tuesday, December 27 through Thursday, December 29. Please call the City Attorney's Office at (408) 535-1900 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to make arrangements for a staff member to meet the server at the City Hall Tower doorway at Santa Clara and 6th Streets.
