Land, Water & People: Finding an Effective Balance for Natural Resource Management in Whatcom County

A Public Technical Symposium on Market-Based Approaches

View PowerPoint Presentations from the Event

What: Symposium Presentation, Discussion, and Outcomes

The resource lands and watersheds of Whatcom County and their associated ecosystems represent a significant portion of the natural capital that supports our agricultural economy, tourism industry, quality of life and essential ecosystem services.  Good stewardship of our natural capital is good for business and good for our wellbeing now and in the future.
Symposium presentations and participant discussions will provide opportunities to:

  • Listen to regional speakers share experience with these approaches in other Pacific Northwest communities.
  • Discuss how a natural resource and environmental market could be designed and used to help maintain the health of Whatcom County’s natural resources?
  • Contribute to this ongoing discussion regarding a natural resources marketplace that would suit
    Whatcom County's natural resource challenges.

Do you have a stake in the future of land and water resources in Whatcom County? The NRM Working Group invites you to join policy and decision-makers from local governments, businesses, technical support and research organizations in exploring Natural Resource Markets and these approaches could be used to maintain healthy land and water resources in Whatcom County.
