Close to 900 fifth-graders from Skagit and Whatcom counties visited Western Washington University today, Oct. 26, to see firsthand what a university campus is like.

The tour kicked off the second year of Compass 2 Campus, a proactive effort that sends trained WWU student mentors into schools in order to get more kids to see themselves as future college students.

Faculty from WWU’s Behavioral Neuroscience Program and Biology and Psychology departments will gather for a neighborhood roundtable discussion, “Neuroscience on Tap: Bring Your Own Brain (BYOB),” from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1, at Bob’s Burgers & Brew, 202 E. Holly St. in downtown Bellingham.

The event is free and open to the public.

“Stress and Your Brain,” this quarter’s topic, will be hosted by Janet Finlay, an associate professor in Western’s Psychology Department.
