2009 Peace Pole presentationWORLD PEACE PRAYER SOCIETY VISITS OAHU COAST GUARD
The Acting 14th District Commander Capt. Bill Marhoffer and Chaplain Lt. Cmdr. Carl Barnes accepted on behalf of the entire Coast Guard Hawaii ohana a peace pole from the World Peace Prayer Society, Wednesday, Nov. 18. Representatives from all of the 14th District's operational units attended the ceremony in which a hand-crafted peace monument inscribed with, 'May Peace Prevail on Earth' was presented.

Galveston Island tow Nov. 12, 2009OAHU PATROL BOAT ASSISTS 5 ON KANEOHE FISHING VESSEL
The crew of the 110-foot Honolulu-based U.S. Coast Guard patrol boat Galveston Island responded to a mariner's call for assistance, Nov. 12, 2009. The master of a fishing vessel radioed for help after becoming disabled and adrift approximately eight miles from shore on the windward side of Oahu. The Galveston Island crew took the 40-foot vessel under tow and returned it to the pier in Kaneohe.

Jarvis return Nov. 12, 2009JARVIS RETURNS TO HONOLULU AFTER 5-TON DRUG BUST
The crew of the 378-foot high endurance cutter Jarvis returned to home port from a patrol on which they intercepted and seized a self-propelled semi-submersible laden with nearly five tons of drugs. Commanding officer Capt. Aaron Davenport addressed Honolulu media in port, Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009.

Coast Guard and community members turned out Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, for the second annual Fallen Guardians Memorial Race, a paddling event from Hawaii Kai to Magic Island. Four Coasties (Capt. Thomas Nelson, Lt. Cmdr. Andrew Wischmeier, Petty Officer 1st Class David Skimin and Petty Officer 1st Class Joshua Nichols lost their lives in a Sept. 4, 2008 crash of a Coast Guard HH-65. Kauhola Lighthouse smallEROSION, SAFETY CONCERNS AT BIG ISLE LIGHTHOUSE
Engineers with the U.S. Coast Guard's Civil Engineering Unit partnered with state preservation experts to determine a reasonable course of action for the Kauhola Lighthouse at a rapidly eroding cliff in the Kohala district of the Big Island. The Coast Guard has contracted to have the 1933 structure removed because of public safety concerns.
