NEW ORLEANS -- (center) Capt. John Korn, the Eight Coast Guard District chief of staff, participates in the filming of a safe boating public service announcement video with the help from a group of New Orleans' Saintsations here Thursday, May 9, 2008.

Each year the Coast Guard, along with the Coast Guard Auxiliary and local supporters, participate in a nationwide safe boating campaign to help ensure a safe and fun boating season. Before boating, the Coast Guard urges all mariners to file a float plan, carry emergency signaling devices and always wear your lifejacket.

 "PELICANS IN PARADISE"

PENSACOLA, Fla.- The Coast Guard held a dedication ceremony for, Semper S. Paratican, the Coast Guard's Pelican as part of Pensacola's "Pelicans in Paradise" program here Wednesday May 7, 2008.

The dedication ceremony included a search and rescue demonstration by crewmembers from Coast Guard Station Pensacola, Air Station New Orleans and the Aviation Training Center in Mobile, Ala.

PENSACOLA, Fla. - Crewmembers stationed aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Coho, an 87-foot patrol-boat from Panama City, Fla., were presented with Achievement medals here, Tuesday May 6, 2008.

Receiving medals were: (from left) Chief Petty Officer James Baxter, 28, Pensacola, Chief Petty Officer Joseph Butkovic, 35, Huntingdon, Pa., Petty Officer 2nd Class Doug Gross, 26, Amherst, Ohio, Petty Officer 3rd Class Jennifer Gonzalez, 26, Hollister, Calif.

The Coast Guard Achievement Medal was authorized by the Secretary of the Treasury on January 29, 1964, as the Secretary of the Treasury Commendation for Achievement, this medal was re-designated the Secretary of Transportation Commendation Medal on March 13, 1967. It became the Coast Guard Achievement Medal on June 11, 1968.

Awarded to all members of the Coast Guard, including reserves and members of other branches of the Armed Forces, when serving with Coast Guard units, for outstanding leadership, professional achievement and superior performance of duty in either peacetime or combat situations.

AET Inspecting

GUANTANAMO BAY, Cuba -- Coast Guard Petty Officer 2nd Class Thomas Morrell, an avionics electrical technician from Coast Aviation Training Center in Mobile, Ala., inspects part of the electrical system on the landing gear onboard a HU-25A Falcon jet Friday, May 2, 2008.

Every three months a Falcon jet and crew from ATC Mobile deploys to patrol the waters off the Antilles as part of the Coast Guard's maritime safety and security mission. Each day crewmembers inspect the critical components aboard the Falcon to ensure that it is working at optimal performance levels. AETs inspect, service, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair avionics systems that perform communications, navigation, collision avoidance, target acquisition, and automatic flight-control functions.
