CAPT Thomas H. Farris
U.S. COAST GUARD
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies from Excelsior College and an Associate of Science in Law Enforcement from the University of Cincinnati.
He is a veteran of U.S. Army and U. S. Coast Guard service with over 6600 hours of flight time in six different aircraft. In addition to his aviation background, Captain Farris has over seven years of non-aviation specific Department Head experience, including work in Maritime Security planning, Facilities Engineering and Administration.
He served as the Group Operations Officer in Port Angeles, WA from 2002 to 2005 serving most recently as the Chief of Aviation Safety, responsible for the fleet-wide aviation safety program. Concurrent with those duties he worked closely with the Coast Guard’s Chief of Aviation Operations and Chief of Aeronautical Engineering in the design, development, implementation and oversight of all aviation programs.
Military awards include: Meritorious Service Medal with gold star, Coast Guard Commendation Medal with two gold stars, Army Commendation Medal with oak leaf, Coast Guard Achievement Medal with gold star, Army Achievement Medal and Military Outstanding Volunteer.
Captain Farris has been happily married to the former Catherine Morgan of Cincinnati, Ohio for more than 26 years, they have four children between ages 21 and 13.
