School Board Honors Graduating Senior Stars May 15
The Bellingham School District Board of Directors is honoring 36 graduating seniors from across all four high schools on May 15 for their outstanding achievements and contributions to their school communities.

Keith Schacht from Bellevue to Lead Squalicum High
Keith Schacht from Bellevue High School will be the new principal at Squalicum High School effective July 1, following his appointment by the Bellingham School District Board of Directors at the May 22 meeting.

Parkview Elementary Turns 50
Parkview Elementary School students, families, community members, alumni and current/retired staff are invited to its 50th anniversary celebration from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 9 at the school, located at 3033 Coolidge Drive.

Community Volunteers Needed for Culminating Project Panels on May 19 or 20
Community members are needed for a one-time volunteer effort on May 19 or 20 at Bellingham, Sehome and Squalicum High Schools to help judge graduating seniors' culminating project presentations. Each school provides training for volunteers on the day of the presentations, so prior experience is not necessary.

Update on Full-Day Kindergarten
The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) released its eligibility list for state funding for full-day kindergarten last week, and none of the schools in the Bellingham School District qualify for the 2008-09 school year. However, the district's All-Day Kindergarten Task Force is working to determine how to otherwise fund and phase in full-day kindergarten beginning in pilot schools in 2009.
