To understand how wildlife populations may have been affected by the spill, scientists are studying a range of life, including marine mammals, birds, fish and plants.

Teams of experts are also studying habitats like wetlands and beaches where those animals and plants live, with the goal of returning them to the condition that they would have been in if the Deepwater Horizon incident had never occurred.
