UPDATE - Coast Guard and local authorities searching for missing UC Santa Barbara student offshore

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara student believed to be missing offshore in the area of Campus Point in Santa Barbara County has been located safely in his campus residence by campus security personnel.

This morning, October 24, the Coast Guard initiated a search for the student believed to be missing after receiving a report that campus security witnessed a person entering the water in the vicinity of Campus Point just west of Santa Barbara Harbor around 4:45 a.m.

The report came into the command center for Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles – Long Beach at 6:00 a.m. A Coast Guard HH-65C Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles and the Coast Guard Cutter Halibut, an 87-foot coastal patrol boat were dispatched to scene to conduct the search. Assets from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s and Fire Department also participated in the search.
