Coast Guard and local authorities searching for missing UC Santa Barbara student offshore

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Coast Guard and local authorities are searching for a University of California, Santa Barbara student missing off Campus Point in Santa Barbara County.

At 6:00 a.m. this morning, October 24, the command center for Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles – Long Beach received a report that campus security witnessed a person entering the water in the vicinity of Campus Point just west of Santa Barbara Harbor around 4:45 a.m.

A Coast Guard HH-65C Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles and the Coast Guard Cutter Halibut, an 87-foot coastal patrol boat, are currently on scene conducting a search for the missing student along with assets from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s and Fire Department.
