| Coast Guard and partner agencies unite to promote a safe spiny lobster fishing season |

SAN PEDRO, Calif. - The Coast Guard, in partnership with state and municipal agencies, is seeking to ensure a safe start to this year’s commercial and recreational spiny lobster fishing season. The California spiny lobster is a species found from the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula to Monterey Bay, Calif. Individuals planning to get underway to participate in this year’s spiny lobster fishing season are strongly urged to make safety a priority. The Coast Guard encourages everyone on the water to maintain navigation and safety equipment in proper working condition. Wear a life jacket, file a float plan with a friend or family member, have a working marine-band VHF radio, electronic position indicating radio beacon (EPIRB), and flares on board. In an emergency, these simple steps can save your life and the lives of your passengers and crew.
