Coast Guard responds to report of submerged vehicle in Morro Bay

MORRO BAY, Calif. — Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach received a report at approximately 7:40 a.m. Monday of a submerged car 100 yards off shore in Morro Bay.

A HH-65C Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles and a 47-foot motor life boat from Coast Guard Station Morro Bay were dispatched to the scene.

Due to a low tidal height, local law enforcement authorities were able to search the vehicle. According to reports, keys were in the vehicle's ignition and personal belongings were in the vehicle's interior.

Local authorities contacted the registered owner of the vehicle and confirmed that all connected individuals are safe. It is believed that the vehicle was stolen Sunday and possibly abandoned on the beach.

The incident remains under investigation by local authorities.

Anyone with additional information regarding the vehicle is requested to contact the Paso Robles Police Department at (805) 237-6464 or the Coast Guard at (310) 521-3801.
