Coast Guard searching for missing boater near Catalina Island (Update)

CATALINA ISLAND, Calif. – The search continues for Lawrence Nash, a boater who went missing north of Catalina Island earlier this morning.

Since the initial report at 3:29 a.m. this morning of the missing boater and his 12- foot skiff, Coast Guard aircraft and vessels have been searching the waters north of Catalina Island along with Baywatch Avalon.

A 41-foot rescue boat from Station Los Angeles, an HH-65C Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Los Angeles, an HC-130 aircraft from Air Station Sacramento and the 87-foot patrol boat, Halibut, have been on scene through the day searching for Lawrence Nash in his last known position.

A debris field containing an oil can, water cooler and seat cushions have all been found north of Arrow Point, Catalina Island.

It is believed Lawrence Nash, a resident of Redondo Beach, was last seen leaving the bait barge near Cabrillo Beach Marina early Sunday Morning.

If anyone has any information that can help locate the missing boater, Lawrence Nash, they are asked to call the Sector Los Angeles – Long Beach Command Center at 310-521-3801 or by marine VHF radio channel 16.
