Coast Guard responds to oil spill at Shelter Island

SAN DIEGO --  The Coast Guard is responding to an oil spill at Shelter Island after the M/V Reel Pain II spilled approximately 20 gallons of oil into the water around 1:30 p.m.

A Coast Guard Station San Diego boat observed the spill and immediately reported it to the Command Center.  Responders were sent to the scene and have boomed off a sheen that covers an area the size of a football field.  The National Response Center has been contacted and the clean up is underway.

If you have a chemical or oil spill to report, the National Response Center can be contacted at 1-800-424-8802.
