Air Station Humboldt Bay medvacs woman swept into ocean
MCKINLEYVILLE, Calif., — Crews from Coast Guard Air Station Humboldt Bay assisted a local fire department with the medevac of a 22-year old woman this afternoon after she was swept from the shoreline of Abalone Point near Shelter Cove, Calif. The Coast Guard received a report shortly after 12:00 p.m. that the woman had been swept into the ocean. A 47-foot motor lifeboat from Coast Guard Station Noyo River and an MH-65C helicopter from Air Station Humboldt Bay were launched. While Coast Guard crews and assets were en route to Shelter Cove, they were notified that a crew aboard a Shelter Cove Fire Department vessel was able to recover the woman from the water. The fire department reported that the woman was hypothermic, and they requested assistance to have the patient airlifted to St. Joseph Hospital in Eureka. The helicopter arrived at Shelter Cove Airport at 1:00 p.m, loaded the patient, and transported her to the hospital in Eureka. The Coast Guard reminds beach-goers to exercise extreme caution in and around the Northern California coastal areas as winter storms bring high seas and unpredictable waves and swells to area beaches and coastal regions. ###
