Coast Guard, local agencies continue search for missing man near Far Rockaway Beach

NEW YORK – The Coast Guard and local agencies are continuing to search for a man reported missing at Far Rockaway Beach in the East Rockaway Inlet, N.Y., around 8:15 a.m. today.

A 13-year-old girl was also recovered from the water by a Good Samaritan and transferred to Emergency Medical Service personnel. Both were reportedly swimming in the area.

The condition of the girl is unknown.

A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Jones Beach, Atlantic Beach Rescue, Nassau County Police air units and New York City Fire Department air units are searching an area in the inlet near the Atlantic Street Bridge in the Rockaways.

(EDITOR’S NOTE: The prior press release stated that the search was being conducted on the ocean side of the Rockaways in the Long Beach area. That information is corrected in the release above.)
