MEDIA INVITED TO ATTEND COAST GUARD CUTTER OPEN HOUSE

New York-Media is invited to the Coast Guard Cutter Sturgeon Bay's celebration of 20 years service to the people of New York and New Jersey at the Military Ocean Terminal, Bayonne, N.J., August 20, at 10 a.m.

The open house will honor the 20th anniversary of the Sturgeon Bay's commissioning and New York City's declaration of Sturgeon Bay day.

The Sturgeon Bay was commissioned on August 20, 1988. Mayor Michael Bloomberg recently signed a proclamation declaring August 20, 2008, Sturgeon Bay day.

The Sturgeon Bay is a 140-foot ice breaker used primarily for domestic ice breaking duties. Other missions include port security, waterways management, search and rescue, law enforcement, and aids to navigation response.

The Sturgeon Bay breaks ice up and down the Hudson River from December to March. The ship is responsible for making sure that a safe navigational track is maintained from New York City to Albany, N.Y.

Media interested in attending should contact the Coast Guard at 212-668-7114, Aug. 19, no later than 4 p.m.
