Selendang Ayu response update

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Salvage crews will attempt to remove more oil from the Selendang Ayu today as long as the weather permits.

Crews didn't remove any oil from the ship Thursday. There are three empty containers staged on the ship's deck, in addition to a cube half full of sludge from the bottom of one of the tanks. Crews used most of the Thursday tapping into the next set of tanks. 

So far the number of dead birds is at 369. Dead otters are at five.

Beach cleanup crews reached certain areas of Skan Bay and Humpback Bay Thursday.

Thursday's weather consisted of southeast winds at 25 knots, gusting to 35 with seas at five feet, cloud cover at 3,500-feet and visibility at more than six miles.
