JUNEAU, Alaska - The crew aboard Coast Guard cutter Alex Haley diverted to assist the motor vessel Selendang Ayu, disabled and adrift 27 miles northwest of Bogoslof Island in the Bering Sea for more than 13 hours while the crew attempted to repair the ship's engine. The ship's master is concerned that the bulk carrier may drift in to Bogoslof Island if his crew is unable to restart the engine within the next 15 to 16 hours. The crew aboard Alex Haley is expected to arrive on scene with the Selendang Ayu at 5:30 p.m. AST. and will stand by to assist its crew until the vesssel's engine is repaired.
