James C. Olson, and Vice Adm. Terry Cross render honors during the national anthem at a ceremony in Sitka Saturday. The title of Enlisted Ancient Albatross, instituted in 1988, was handed down from Beardsley to MacDougall. The title of Ancient Albatross, instituted in 1966, was handed down from Olson to Cross. The tradition of the Ancient Albatross honors the Coast Guard aviator and enlisted aircrew member who have held their designations for the longest period.
