May 13, 2006 - Coast Guard aviators carry on Ancient tradition
JUNEAU, Alaska - Coast Guard Chief Peter MacDougal (left), Master Chief Petty Officer William Beardsley, Rear Adm. James C. Olson, and Vice Adm. Terry Cross render honors during the playing of the national anthem at a ceremony in Sitka Saturday, during which the title of Enlisted Ancient Albatross, instituted in 1988, was handed down from Beardsley to McDougall and Ancient Albatross, instituted in 1966, was handed down from Olson to Cross. The tradition of the Ancient Albatross honors the Coast Guard aviator and elisted aircrew who have held their designations for the longest period.
