STORMS CAUSE SECOND RELEASE OF OIL IN CALIFORNIA |
Three members of the Coast Guard's Pacific Strike Team (PST) deployed Sunday to assist the Environmental Protection Agency in response to an estimated 30,000-gallon crude oil spill near Buellton, Calif.
The series of storms that hit the coast Jan. 3 caused the re-release of oil contained from a previous Dec. 14 clean-up near Zaca Creek, a tributary to the Santa Maria River.
The PST based in Novato, Calif., is conducting on-scene contractor monitoring as a representative to the federal on-scene coordinator. The members will work with the EPA, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Greka Energy, the responsible party, in containment and clean-up efforts.
For more information about the response, please contact the EPA's Office of Public Affairs.
