Gordon County Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) Radiological Transportation Exercise

What A full-scale training exercise in response to a simulated incident involving the shipment of transuranic radioactive waste along Interstate 75, as it passes through Gordon County. Where 1-A McDaniel Station Road (near Oothcalooga Street intersection) Calhoun, GA How Exercise activities will require all aspects of emergency response and emergency management to include Gordon County, the city of Calhoun, Gordon Hospital, the state of Georgia, the Southern States Energy Board and the U.S. Department of Energy - WIPP.
Why Gordon County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) recognizes its responsibility to protect the public from, and mitigate the consequences of, those potential hazards associated with the transportation of transuranic radioactive waste through the county. This responsibility includes the necessity for a properly integrated response plan in the event of an incident involving this low-level waste. With this responsibility in mind, the Gordon County EMA, in coordination with other local response organizations have developed policies and procedures to respond to a radioactive transportation incident, and have determined the need to conduct this exercise to test these protocols.
