U.S., Canadian coast guard crews search for overdue sailboat

PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Aircraft crews from the U.S. Coast Guard and Canadian coast guard are searching Thursday for an overdue 67-year-old man who was transiting from Halifax, Nova Scotia, to Bermuda aboard his sailboat.

The Canadian man departed Halifax Nov. 9 aboard his 45-foot sailboat, Mon Pays, and was expected to arrive in Bermuda Monday.

Rescue Coordination Center Norfolk and Halifax coordinated flights to search between the two known locations, broadcasted call-outs on marine band radios and contacted other vessel owners that may have seen the Mon Pays.

The vessel was reported to have a VHF radio, personal flotation devices, flares, an 8-foot white dingy but no electronic position indicating radio beacon.
