Vice Adm. Vivien Crea passes on the distinction as the Ancient Albatross as she retires Thursday Oct. 1, 2009, at Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C. The Ancient Albatross award was initiated in 1966, the golden anniversary of Coast Guard aviation, and signifies the longest serving Coast Guard aviator on active duty. The nostalgic flight suit was passed on as Rear Adm. Gary T. Blore, Thirteenth District Commander, became the 22nd Ancient Albatross.
