Coast Guard medevacs 1 near Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel

CAPE CHARLES, Va. - The Coast Guard medevaced a fisherman after he was injured Wednesday three-and-a-half miles northeast of Myrtle Island on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

The crew of the fishing vessel Lancaster contacted Sector Hampton Roads watchstanders at 10:45 a.m. stating that one of their crewmembers was struck by the rigging and required medical attention for head lacerations and possible other injuries.

The watchstanders and the Coast Guard 5th District flight surgeon determined that a rescue boat would be the safest means to transport the man.

A 41-foot rescue boat crew from Station Cape Charles launched and transported the man to Kiptopeke State Park, where they transferred him to emergency medical personnel who took him to Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox.
