Coast Guard suspends search for 12-year-old boy

COROLLA, N.C. - The Coast Guard suspended their search at 8:56 p.m. Friday, for the 12-year-old boy who went missing off Corolla beach while boogy boarding Friday morning.

Coast Guard crews, Corolla fire and sheriffs departments, and lifeguards searched all day and into the evening for the boy. The Coast Guard used two MH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter crews from Air Station Elizabeth City and a 47-foot rescue boat crew from Station Oregon Inlet.

"This is a tradgey. The child and family will remain in our thoughts," said Petty Officer 1st class Thomas Quigley, a Sector North Carolina watchstander. "The Coast Guard is urging people to stay out of the water until tropical storm Danny passes and the rip currents subside."
