Coast Guard crew medevacs 1 near Cape May, N.J.

CAPE MAY, N.J. - The Coast Guard medevaced a 35-year-old male from a 73-foot fishing boat 50 miles southeast of Cape May after he was suffering from a soar throat Monday.

 Medevaced was Jaime Gibbs.

The Coast Guard received a call at approximately 11:03 a.m. from a crew member aboard the Sassy Sarah reporting Gibbs' throat was starting to swell shut and he could no longer speak.

A rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., arrived on scene and transported Gibbs to the air station where he was transferred to awaiting emergency medical personnel and transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City, N.J.

"The captain and crew of the Sassy Sarah were well prepared, which made our job easier," said Lt. Will Cahill, the pilot of the rescue helicopter. "They were also very grateful for the Coast Guard's efforts in today's medevac."
