Atlantic City native supports international effort to help Africa

Legare crewmember completing underway qualifications

ATLANTIC OCEAN - Coast Guard Petty Officer 2nd Class Maurice Alston, a damage control specialist aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Legare, prepares drawings of the cutter's onboard compressed air system, as part of his underway qualifications, Thursday, July 16, 2009.

Alston, a native of Atlantic City, N.J., and the crew of the Legare are supporting the Africa Partnership Station mission off the coast of west and central Africa, under the direction of Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa, 6th Fleet.

The APS is an international effort aiming to enhance regional and maritime safety and security in Western and Central Africa.
