FORTESCUE, N.J.- The Coast Guard and New Jersey State Police rescued five people Monday aboard a 60-foot boat taking on water near the entrance to the Maurice River in Maurice Cove, N.J.
The Coast Guard received a call at 10:11 a.m. from a crew member aboard the Howard W. Sockwell reporting the boat was taking on water.
A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Fortescue, N.J., and a boat crew from the New Jersey State Police Marine Division arrived on scene and provided pumps to the crew of the scallop boat.
The scallop boat crew was able to control the flooding and were escorted to their dock next to the Bivalve, N.J., Police Station by the rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Fortescue.
