Coast Guard crew rescues 2 in Delaware River

PHILADELPHIA - The Coast Guard rescued two people today aboard a 60-foot boat taking on water near the naval ship yard in the Delaware River here.

The Coast Guard received a call at 9:25 a.m. from a crewman aboard Details, a sport fishing boat, reporting they were taking on water and needed assistance.

A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Philadelphia arrived on scene and found the boat had four feet of water aboard.

Coast Guard members were able to control the flooding by rigging three dewatering pumps to the boat.

The rescue boat crew assisted the Details' crew in mooring up at a dock near the Philadelphia Naval Business Center.

A Seatow boat crew arrived at the dock near the Philadelphia Naval Business Center and will be escorting Details and its crew to the Maurice River.

"We got there just in time," said Petty Officer 2nd Class Ralph Burnett, a coxswain at Coast Guard Station Philadelphia. "The water was pouring in."
