Blessing Alert-
I had some of the same conversations at Cafe Pres. yesterday.  As I spoke to our teachers and the tune seemed to be the same, "bigger classes and less support."  This is one of the sad impacts of the recession on our community- and the losers in the deal are not the teachers, but the students.

The big losers it seems are those students who really need the personal attention.  As the class size gets larger those students who are struggling get further and further behind.

So I began to think, these teachers need some help- our school district needs some help.  Lets put out the alert.  Our schools need some help.

If you need another place to be a blessing- this might be it.  Volunteer at a local school.  You will be required to fill out some paperwork and probably get fingerprinted, but that is a short process.  Here are some ways that you might be able to do this-

1- Contact a school near your house
2- Contact a teacher that you know
3- Talk to teacher where you know a relative or friend (get that relatives permission first)
4- Check in with a teacher at church if they need help

You don't need to know the quadratic equation to help out (but if you forgot it I would be delighted to share it with you).  Some classes need people to help read, some need people to help out by doing admin.  I knew of a class that had a reading Grandpa who came every week- the kids loved him.  I used to help out in Math Class a few years ago and I loved that- I am going to find out if I could begin to help out weekly with some of these kids who might fall behind.

There is a church in Seattle where the principle came back to church because of the way that church had blessed the schools.

We have been so blessed, let us bless those in our community.  It starts with a phone call.  Here is the link to some local districts-
