All Hallows Eve-
Halloween comes to Bellingham, once more way to cold to be enjoyable.  Many Christians have very strong feelings against Halloween.  It has basically been given over to the Pagans.

Now there certainly is some of that in the history of Halloween, but it began as all Hallows eve, the day before all saints day.  The early practice was that children were encouraged to dress up as their favorite saint.  Many of those practices have morphed since then, but that morphing has been very recent.

In many ways it is a good time for us to remember that all the evil in the world cannot prevail because our God is on the throne.  In some sense all the ghoulish costumes point to the weakness of evil in the end.  That is a good reminder.

We were certainly able to celebrate that truth at our Harvest Festival.  There were over 200 participants in 2 hours of sugar infused chaos.  Kudos to Tracy Johnson and our talented Children's Committee who pulled off another huge success.  There was a balloon entertainer, there was candy galore, new ways to get it, and a chance to throw rotten tomatoes at Mr. Pumpkin head- What is better than that?

The best part was that it fit so deeply within our mission of being a blessing.  We were able to provide a party for some of our neighbors who are not able to do this kind of thing.  I spoke with a few families from Dorothy place who said this is their first time out in a long time.  We were able to bless these families in some tangible ways.  Praise God.

I get to pass on good news today- I just learned that Bill and Tamara Heming are expecting- Look for a new Heming in June- great news!

In His Blessing,

Doug B.
