COAST GUARD REPATRIATES 42 MIGRANTS AMID HURRICANE FRANCES 

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Yesterday, the Coast Guard rescued 42 illegal migrants near Puerto Rico who were sailing in the path of Hurricane Frances.

The migrants, 40 from the Dominican Republic and two from Haiti, were stopped by the Coast Guard Cutter Chincoteague 35 miles from Aguadilla, PR.  They were transferred to the Coast Guard Cutter Confidence for repatriation to La Romana, Dominican Republic.

Confidence turned over the migrants to the Dominican Navy Vessel Altair, at approximately 10 a.m. this morning.

Confidence commanded a Surface Action Group with five patrol boats, ready to respond to urgent search and rescue in and around Puerto Rican waters as Hurricane Frances passed by.

The Coast Guard Cutter Chincoteague is a 110-foot patrol boat based out of San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The Coast Guard Cutter Confidence is a 210-foot medium endurance cutter homeported in Port Canaveral, Fla.
