Coast Guard searching for missing man aboard the sailing vessel Egide

Coast Guard crews are searching Monday for Charles Collins, 68, aboard the sailing vessel Egide, after receiving reports Saturday that he went missing while transiting from Puerto Rico to Titusville, Fla. Coast Guard image provided was taken June 10, when the sailing vessel Egide experienced rudder problems and was assisted by Station San Juan rescue personnel 39 nautical miles north of Boca de Cangrejos, Carolina, Puerto Rico.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - Coast Guard crews are searching Monday for a man reportedly missing aboard the 34-foot sailing vessel Egide, while transiting from Puerto Rico to Fla.

Missing is Charles Collins, 68, a native of Georgia, who for the past three years has been living aboard the Egide; a white-hull sailing vessel with a green stripe.

Coast Guard Watchstanders received a telephone call from a family member of Collins Saturday, who reported that he intended to depart Puerto Rico Oct. 15 and was believed to be headed towards Titusville Fla. with possible stops in the Bahamas along the way.

Coast Guard personnel actively conducting port checks in Puerto Rico and Fla. have found no signs of the missing mariner.  Coast Guard Watchstanders in Sector San Juan are also transmitting Urgent Marine Information Broadcasts and Enhanced Group Calling notifications for mariners to be on the lookout and report any possible sightings to the Coast Guard.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the missing mariner is requested to contact the Coast Guard Sector San Juan Command Center at 787-289-2041.
