Coast Guard responds to Caribbean Petroleum tank farm explosion in Puerto Rico, establishes safety zone

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - Coast Guard pollution response teams are responding alongside local and federal authorities to an explosion Friday morning at the Caribbean Petroleum Corporation tank farm in Bayamón, Puerto Rico.

Capt. Eduardo Pino, Captain of the Port San Juan, has established a safety zone along the shoreline from Punta Cataño to the Puerto Nuevo Intership facility, no vessels are permitted from entering this Safety Zone without prior approval from the Captain of the Port.  Vessels or boaters violating this Safety Zone may be subject to fines up to $32,500.
