Coast Guard searching for missing diver near Anna Maria Island

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Coast Guard has been searching for a missing diver 18 miles west of Anna Maria Island, Fla., since about 10:30 a.m., Friday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, Fla., received a call at 10:28 a.m., Friday, from a crewmember aboard the 22-foot vessel Malikot reporting that Darren Rordan, 31, had not surfaced from a dive.

An HH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, a 41-foot utility boat from Station Cortez, Fla., the St. Petersburg-based Coast Guard Cutter Alligator, an 87-foot patrol boat, are searching the area for Rordan.

 Rordan was reported to be wearing a white dive top.

Weather conditions for the area are 2- to- 3-foot seas, 5- to- 10-knot winds and 10 mile visibility.
