VENICE, Fla. - The Coast Guard medically evacuated a man from a boat about 30 miles west of Venice at approximately 11:45 a.m.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, Fla., received a call around 10:45 a.m. from the 25-foot vessel Bite Me reporting a 72-year-old man aboard the boat was suffering from heart-attack-like symptoms.

Search and rescue coordinators immediately launched an HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Fla., and safely hoisted the man.

He was taken to Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Fla., at about 12:15 p.m. and his condition is unknown.

The man's name is being withheld pending next-of-kin notifications.
