Coast Guard displays BAT-PAK at Miami International Boat Show

MIAMI -- The Coast Guard will have the Boating Advisory Trailer - Public Awareness Kit on display at the Miami International Boat Show's Miami Beach Convention Center site Thursday through Monday.

The BAT-PAK is a mobile program designed to inform and educate recreational boaters of equipment that greatly increases their survivability in the event of a mishap or emergency while boating.  The program delivers training, on-site displays and follow-up education to the boating community. An important emphasis this year is the Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) transition from analog to digital.

"The BAT-PAK will inform our customers, the recreational boating community, that, most importantly, 'life jackets save lives'," said Bruce Wright, Seventh Coast Guard District recreational boating safety specialist.  "Additionally, the BAT-PAK displays some of the most advanced safety equipment available to mariners today.

The Coast Guard Auxiliary will also be present to promote safe boating practices and provide dates and times for future Coast Guard Auxiliary boating safety classes.
