Coast Guard Medevacs Man from Cruise Ship Noordam

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO - A HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew medically evacuated a man from cruise ship Noordam at 11 p.m. Sunday, approximately 90 nautical miles north of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.

Anthony Naples, 78, a U.S. citizen, was suffering from an obstructed urinary tract and hypertension aboard the Noordam and required immediate medical attention ashore.

Coast Guard controllers coordinated with the crew of the Noordam and launched a rescue helicopter from Air Station Borinquen, Aguadilla to conduct the medical evacuation.  Once on scene with the Noordam, the helicopter crew hoisted the patient and a cruise ship nurse onto the aircraft. The Dolphin helicopter crew transported the patient to the Centro Medico Hospital, San Juan where he was transferred to awaiting hospital Emergency Medical Services personnel to receive further medical care.
