January 21, 2009 - Visit the Center for Canadian American Studies and Border Policy Research Institute 

Join us on January 21 for a tour and presentation of the Center of American Studies and Border Policy Research Institute at Western Washington University. CanAm and BPRI are important elements of the WWU difference and both serve to link the university faculty and students with the larger policy and business communities in the region and nation. January 29, 2009 - Bellingham Angels, TAG, and Bellingham/Whatcom Economic Development Council Present the Alliance of Angels 10-Minute Pitch Clinic for Entrepreneurs

Event description: Alliance of Angels 10 Minute Pitch Clinic, an educational event tailored specifically to entrepreneurs on how to effectively pitch a startup business plan to angel investors. In this clinic, the AoA Program Director will share insights on how to effectively present a business opportunity to angel investors, including fine-tuning messaging, fitting essential information into a 10-minute presentation, and providing a set of best practices for entrepreneurs to follow when developing their pitch.

The clinic will include an overview of the angel investment community, an in-depth review of the components of a good pitch, and an interactive component in which participants will receive feedback and coaching on their specific messaging. For more details and to register >>

Ted Neward and Amanda Laucher to present on F#.

In this presentation, Amanda Laucher and Ted Neward, authors of the forthcoming 'F# in a Nutshell', take an all-code, no-slides look at the language, its concepts and ideas, and a little bit of its libraries and syntax, and show you how to start answering that crucial question, this time for real. By the end of the talk, you will have a grasp of some of F#'s core syntax, some good background on how it works and what it's good for, and a little bit of how it interoperates with C#, Visual Basic and other .NET languages, in either web and desktop applications.Reminders to follow closer to the 14th.

Dennis Williams from the Northwest Indian College was one of the lucky students to receive a TAG scholarship this year. Seen here with Gary Brandt (right) of the NWIC Information Technology/ Robotics program.
This year the generosity of TAG members and guests provided five scholarships to students in technology programs at Western Washington University, Whatcom Community College, Northwest Indian College, Bellingham Technical College, and the Whatcom Tech Prep Consortium. This is our way of giving back to our community and supporting the future of technology in our area.

Our holiday and scholarship event also provided a delicious lunch prepared by the the award winning Culinary Arts students of Bellingham Technical College at the BTC restaurant. For more pictures >>
