Bob Jones' Reports from the Bellingham .Net groups meeting on April 12:
Eleven local developers showed up last night at St. Luke’s Health Education Center for what turned out to be a double header of geek power speak. Julie Lerman flew all the way from Vermont, suffering a major delay in Chicago along the way to speak to us about Microsoft’s new “Language Integrated Query” (LINQ) technology that will be rolled out late this year and promises to stretch many brain cells in the process. Even though Julie arrived at 7:30 PST after getting up at 5:30 EST, she was still going strong at 9:30, dealing with deep technical questions from Wayne Berry and others as she described how LINQ will change the way developers access data in its many forms and locations.
Andy Robinson, who arranged meeting logistics, did an excellent job of flexing with the airline chaos, and arranged for Paul Mahner, a Wintellect speaker from Olympia, to give a deeply informative presentation on Microsoft’s Windows Work Flow Foundation. Paul gave an excellent overview of how this technology can be used to rapidly define and automate business processes.
Paul is a representative of INETA, a trade organization funded heavily by Microsoft that underwrites and supports .NET user groups around the world. Julie is one of 60 INETA speakers who visit local INETA chapters and talk about emerging Microsoft technology. Unlike many Microsoft presentations given by Microsoft marketing people, the two presentations last night were deeply informative, and the speakers were both highly qualified and in their respective areas of focus and passionate about communicating and teaching others.
The Bellingham .NET Users Group is partially underwritten by TAG and is open free of charge to anybody who is active with the various Microsoft .NET technologies.
