2 MEN, DOG RESCUED BEAVER ISLAND, Mich. - Two men and a dog are safe after being hoisted by a Coast Guard rescue helicopter early Wednesday morning. Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City received the call for help at 12:11 a.m. this morning and immediately launched an HH-65 rescue helicopter. The two men reported their 26-foot boat Little Blue was grounded about 500 yards off Beaver Island in northern Lake Michigan. The Coast Guard arrived on scene 1:05 a.m. and was able to hoist both men and their nine month old dog to safety. Both men were cold but appeared to be in good condition. They were delivered to the airport in Charlevoix, Mich., where medical personnel were standing by. Weather conditions on Lake Michigan were clear skies, with temperatures in the upper 20s. The water temperature in Lake Michigan is currently in the low 40s. Estimated survival time in water temperatures below 45 degrees is less than 90 minutes.
