Coast Guard rescues four near Pier 20

CLEVELAND—The U.S. Coast Guard rescued four people at approximately 5:30 p.m., Sunday,  after one person fell into the water off Pier 20, here, and three others went in after her.

Coast Guard Station Cleveland Harbor launched a 25-foot Response Boat-Small (RB-S) after receiving a call from Cleveland Emergency Dispatch at approximately 5:10 p.m.

All four people were pulled from the water without incident and were taken to Station Cleveland Harbor where local Emergency Medical Services were standing by.

“They didn’t report any injuries, but they were all very cold,” said Petty Officer Sarah Gunderman, a responding boat crewman at Station Cleveland Harbor. “The person who initially fell in was panicked, but the others were relatively calm.”

The Coast Guard would like to remind people recreating near the water that as the weather gets cooler, so does the temperature in the water, increasing the chances of hypothermia. Always use caution when recreating near the water.
