CHICAGO-- The Coast Guard Cutter MACKINAW, in partnership with the Chicago Christmas Ship Committee, is scheduled to arrive at Chicago's Navy Pier, Friday at 8:00 a.m. with Christmas trees for Chicago area disadvantaged families.

More than 1,000 Christmas trees will be distributed throughout Chicago following a presentation ceremony scheduled for Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at Navy Pier.

The trees were purchased from North Country Christmas Trees in Wausaukee, Wisc., with monies raised by Chicago's Christmas Ship Committee.  An additional 100 trees will be donated to families in Cheboygan, Mich., where MACKINAW is homeported.

A portion of MACKINAW’s fall routine involves training trips in preparation for the icebreaking season.  In conjunction with the training trip to Chicago, MACKINAW is able to transport Christmas trees for this charity event.

MACKINAW will be moored at the southwest end of Navy Pier and will host public tours on December 6 and December 7 from 1:30 to 5 p.m.

Members of the media are invited to attend the ship's arrival on Friday, and the presentation ceremony and offloading of the Christmas trees on Saturday.
