ERIE, Pa. – The Coast Guard assisted two people after their 20-foot sailboat capsized off the west tip of Seagull Point today at about 3 p.m.
Coast Guard station Erie received a report stating a sailboat was capsized after having trouble with their mainsail. A Coast Guard 23-foot rescue boat quickly arrived on scene and pulled one person from the chilly 52 degree water. The two people were taken to a local marina where one person was transferred to emergency medical services and taken to a local hospital suffering from mild hypothermia, after being in the water for only about 20 minutes.
A local salvage company is responding to the capsized sailboat.
