COAST GUARD CUTTER HOLLYHOCK TRANSFERS COMMAND

PORT HURON, Mich.  - Lt. Cmdr. Michael J. Davanzo will transfer command of Coast Guard Cutter Hollyhock to Lt. Cmdr. James G. Bellaire during a change-of-command ceremony Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at 10 a.m.

The ceremony will be held at the Port Huron Seaway Terminal, here.

Davanzo, who has commanded the Hollyhock since July, 2005, will transfer to Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington D.C. to work in the Cutter Platforms Division.

Bellaire will assume command of Hollyhock having finished a tour in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, where he served as the Coast Guard Liaison Officer representing the Seventh Coast Guard District commander.

The change of command ceremony is a time-honored tradition and deeply rooted in Coast Guard and Naval history. The event signifies a total transfer of responsibility, authority and accountability for the command. The ceremony is witnessed by all members so that they all know exactly when the transfer of leadership takes place.
