COAST GUARD RESCUES HYPOTHERMIC MAN

SAGINAW BAY, Mich. -- Coast Guard Station Saginaw River rescued a hypothermic 45-year-old man from a capsized 15-foot personal craft near Buoy No. 10 in the Saginaw Channel today at approximately 7 a.m.

"He'd been clinging to his boat since 1:30 in the afternoon (Sunday). Yesterday he started swimming to shore," said Boatswain's Mate 2nd Class Jeff Mitchell.

According to Mitchell, the man drifted a couple of miles from were he started in Linwood.

Mitchell and his 25-foot small response boat crew transferred the man to awaiting Emergency Medical Services at the station.

The Coast Guard recommends both boaters and anyone recreating on the lakes to always wear a life jacket.

For further inquiries, contact the Ninth District Public Affairs Office at 216-902-6020.
