 Coast Guard rescues man with leg injury

MOBILE, Ala. -- The Coast Guard rescued a man who injured his leg on board a fishing vessel two miles north of Horn Island, Nov. 3, 2009

Coast Guard Sector Mobile received the initial call from the captain of the fishing vessel Captain Dennis at approximately 10 a.m. He reported that a man on his vessel had injured his leg and was in need of medical attention. 

Sector Mobile launched a 25-foot rescue boat and crew from Station Gulfport, Miss., a 41-foot rescue boat from Station Pascagoula, Miss., and an MH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter and crew from Air Station New Orleans to assist. 

The injured man was transferred to the 41-foot rescue boat and from there was hoisted to the helicopter for medevac. 

The man was taken to the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport where Emergency Medical Services were standing by.

The condition of the man is unknown.
